Good to know before you buy

What can a 5000 watt inverter generator run

At 3800 running watts, the MXR5000iE handles most residential and RV loads. It will comfortably power a standard home refrigerator, chest freezer, window AC unit (up to ~8,000 BTU), sump pump, lights, routers, and phone and laptop chargers simultaneously. In RV use, it can run a 13,500 BTU rooftop air conditioner with a soft-start capacitor installed.

Not sure if it fits your RV, backup plan, or specific appliances? Call 314-833-8000 and we'll walk through your setup before you buy.
What remote start actually does

The MXR5000iE includes a wireless remote key fob that starts and stops the generator from up to 65 feet away. This is a genuine remote start — not app monitoring. There is no Bluetooth app on this model. Electric push-button start and recoil pull-cord backup are also included.

What 65 dB actually sounds like

65 dB at 23 feet is roughly equivalent to a normal conversation or moderate background noise. It is considerably quieter than a conventional open-frame generator, which typically operates at 72–80 dB. In practice, you can hold a normal conversation a short distance from the generator without raising your voice. Most campgrounds and RV parks that allow generators will have no issue with this noise level.

Runtime and fuel explained

The MXR5000iE has a 1.85-gallon fuel tank. At quarter load (approx. 950W), runtime is 9.5 hours. At 50% load (approximately 1900W), runtime is approximately 5.8 hours. ECO mode automatically adjusts engine speed to match the load, extending runtime and reducing noise at lighter loads.

Turn ECO mode off before starting heavy motor loads — table saws, compressors, and air conditioners — so the engine runs at full RPM for the startup surge. You can turn it back on once the load is running.

What the MXR5000iE can run

3800 running watts / 5000 peak watts. Startup watts draw higher current for 1–2 seconds when a motor starts. Plan around running watts for sustained use.

Let’s talk about MXR +
The MXR Story

MXR is produced by Maxpeedingrods, an engineering company founded in 2006 that builds performance and power equipment for real-world use. Their inverter generators are designed for buyers who want modern features — remote start, CO protection, pure sine wave output — without paying a premium for a legacy brand name.

The MXR5000iE is purpose-built around one mission: serious power in a lightweight, portable package. At 59 pounds with integrated wheels and a telescoping handle, it’s dramatically lighter than similarly powered units from Cummins Onan and Generac — making it easy for one person to load into a truck bed or RV storage compartment without help.

Parallel capability means two MXR5000iE units can be linked together for approximately double the output — useful for buyers who want a scalable setup without buying a larger, heavier single unit.

MXR generators carry a 2-year manufacturer warranty plus lifetime technical support. Durvy Supply provides direct support from Union, Missouri. Call or email us any time before or after your purchase.

Common questions about the MXR5000iE

General & setup questions
Can I just call instead of reading the FAQs?

Yes, anytime. Call or text 314-833-8000 or email sales@durvy.com. We provide direct support from our Union, MO location.

What’s in the box?

1× Generator, 1× Spark Plug Socket Wrench, 1× Oil Funnel, 1× RV30 Plug, 1× Generator Parallel Cables, 1× Screwdriver, 1× Remote Controller, 1× 20A Plug, 1× Owner Manual.

Does this generator ship with oil?

No. The MXR5000iE ships without engine oil. Add SAE 10W-30 oil (0.1 gal capacity) before attempting to start it. Starting the generator without oil will cause serious engine damage.

What type of oil and gas does it use?

Oil: SAE 10W-30 (0.1 gal capacity). Gas: Unleaded gasoline, max 10% ethanol. Do not use E85 or E15.

How does the remote start work?

The included key fob starts and stops the generator from up to 65 feet away. This is a dedicated wireless remote start — not an app or Bluetooth feature. Electric push-button start and recoil pull-cord are also available as backups.

What should I check before leaving for a trip?

Check oil (SAE 10W-30, 0.1 gal capacity) and fuel levels, start the generator and confirm it runs cleanly, and pack a spare quart of SAE 10W-30 oil and a backup A7RTC spark plug.

RV & camping questions
Can the MXR5000iE run an RV air conditioner?

Yes, with a soft-start capacitor installed. A standard 13,500 BTU RV air conditioner has a startup surge of approximately 2,800–3,500W without a soft starter. With a soft starter, the surge drops to under 1,800W — well within the 5000W peak capacity. Call us at 314-833-8000 to confirm compatibility with your specific AC unit.

Will it work for camping where noise rules apply?

At 65 dB, the MXR5000iE is a genuine inverter generator — meaningfully quieter than conventional open-frame generators (typically 72–80 dB). Most campgrounds and RV parks that allow generators will accommodate this noise level. Check the specific rules at your destination before you go.

Why is my RV surge protector showing an open ground fault?

Portable generators have a floating neutral. Many RV EMS and surge protector systems require a bonded neutral. Use a neutral-ground bonding plug in one of the 20A outlets to resolve this.

Can I connect two MXR5000iE generators together?

Yes. Use a Maxpeedingrods parallel kit (sold separately) to link two units for approximately double the output. This gives you a scalable setup without buying a single larger unit.

Should I leave ECO mode on when starting heavy loads?

No. Turn ECO mode off before starting heavy loads — air conditioners, compressors, table saws — so the engine runs at full RPM for the startup surge. Turn it back on once the load is running.

Home backup planning
Is 3800 running watts enough for home backup?

For essential backup use, yes — with significant headroom. A refrigerator, chest freezer, window AC, sump pump, lights, router, and chargers typically draw well under 3,800 running watts combined. The MXR5000iE handles that load comfortably.

Does this generator work with a Starlink dish?

Yes. Starlink draws approximately 50–75 running watts. The MXR5000iE’s pure sine wave output is well-suited for Starlink and all other sensitive electronics.

What are peak watts vs. running watts?

Running watts (3,800W) is the continuous output — what the generator can sustain hour after hour. Peak watts (5,000W) is the surge capacity available for 1–2 seconds when a motor-driven appliance starts. Plan your load based on running watts, and make sure any motor-driven appliances have a startup surge that falls within the 5,000W peak.

Power output & parallel questions
How does the parallel feature work?

A Maxpeedingrods parallel kit (sold separately) connects two MXR5000iE generators. Combined output is approximately double. This is a cost-effective way to scale power without buying a larger, heavier single unit — and you get the flexibility of using one generator for lighter loads.

Will the generator maintain voltage for sensitive electronics?

Yes. The inverter module produces pure sine wave output with less than 2% THD — the same quality of power you get from a household outlet. Laptops, CPAP machines, Starlink routers, cameras, and similar electronics can be connected directly without risk of damage from power quality issues.

Can I run a 50-amp RV with two MXR5000iE units paralleled?

Two paralleled MXR5000iE units provide approximately 7,600 running watts, which is sufficient for most 50-amp RV loads. You’ll still want a soft starter on any air conditioning units. Call us at 314-833-8000 to walk through your specific RV setup before purchasing.

Maintenance & storage
What is the recommended maintenance schedule?

Check engine oil (SAE 10W-30, 0.1 gal capacity) before each use. For oil change intervals and the full maintenance schedule, refer to the owner’s manual. Download the PDF at the link above or call us for a copy.

What spark plug does it use?

The MXR5000iE uses an A7RTC spark plug. Keep a spare on hand before any extended trip.

How do I prep it for storage?

For short storage (under 30 days): add fuel stabilizer to the tank. For longer storage: drain the tank and carburetor completely by turning the fuel switch OFF while the engine is running and allowing it to use remaining fuel before shutting down.

Why does the engine struggle to start after sitting?

Stale gasoline is the most common cause. Gasoline can varnish in 30–60 days without a stabilizer, clogging the carburetor. Drain the tank, add fresh gasoline, and try again. If it still won’t start, call us at 314-833-8000.

Is this generator National Park and campground legal?

It is equipped with a spark arrestor and operates as an inverter generator. Check the specific campground or park rules before use, as noise and equipment requirements vary by location.
