Why people choose this generator

Dual Fuel Flexibility: Switch between gasoline and propane depending on what you have on hand. Propane stores indefinitely, making it a smart choice for emergency backup planning.

Quiet Inverter Operation: Inverter technology adjusts engine speed to match the load, keeping noise down and fuel consumption low compared to conventional open-frame generators.

Safe for Sensitive Electronics: Pure sine wave output with less than 3% THD delivers the clean power laptops, CPAP machines, Starlink routers, and TVs require.

Lightweight and Portable: At 55 lbs, it is easy to move, store in a truck bed, or pack for a camping trip — without sacrificing real usable power.

Who this generator is built for

Home & Rural Backup

Refrigerator, freezer, sump pump, lights, and internet when the power goes out.

Sensitive Electronics

Laptops, Starlink, routers, TVs, and CPAP machines that need clean inverter power.

RV & Camping

Quiet inverter power for campground use, 30A RV setups, and overnight trips where noise matters.

Job Site & Farm Power

3200 running watts handles drills, saws, compressors, and lighting on the job or in the field.

Good to know before you buy

What can a 3500 watt inverter generator run

3200W running / 3500W peak covers the essentials and more. A window AC unit (700–1200W running), a refrigerator (600W running, 1,200W start), several LED lights, a TV, and phone chargers can all run simultaneously. A microwave draws 800–1500W on its own, so you can run one — just watch your total load.

On the job site: a circular saw (1400W), a drill (500W), and a work light still leaves headroom. A small air compressor (1–1.5 hp) is doable — verify the starting surge on your specific compressor first.

It won't run central air conditioning (5000W+), a well pump, or an electric range. For those you'd need the MXR6000GT.

What dual fuel actually means for you

The MXR3500S runs on either gasoline or liquid propane — you switch between them with the fuel selector. On gas: 3500W peak, 3200W running, 11 hours at 25% load. On propane: 3100W peak, 2800W running, up to 24 hours at 25% load on a standard 20 lb tank.

Propane stores indefinitely — no degradation, no stabilizer needed. Gas goes stale in 30–90 days. For emergency backup where you can't predict when you'll need it, propane is the better storage choice.

You can't run both at once. Stop the engine, switch the fuel selector, restart. That's it.

What the CO auto-shutdown does

A built-in sensor monitors carbon monoxide levels near the unit. If CO reaches a dangerous concentration, the engine shuts down automatically — no action required from you.

This is the leading cause of generator fatalities: running a unit too close to an enclosed space. Even a garage with the door open, a covered porch, or a cracked window can trap CO fast enough to be deadly before symptoms appear.

The CO shutdown is a backup safety net, not a replacement for proper placement. Always run at least 20 feet from any door, window, or vent. Never inside any enclosed structure.

How to read the runtime numbers

Runtime is rated at a percentage of load. 25% load on a 3200W generator is 800 watts — a fridge, a few lights, and a phone charger. At that load on gas: 11 hours from the 1.6 gallon tank. At 50% load (1600W): 6.5 hours.

Propane runtime is significantly longer: up to 24 hours at 25% load, 13.5 hours at 50% load on a 20 lb tank.

Running heavy loads — AC, multiple appliances — means shorter runtimes closer to the 50% figures. When in doubt, size up rather than run at the edge of capacity.

What can the MXR3500S power?

Use these as starting estimates. Always check your appliance labels for actual wattage. Starting (surge) watts matter when sizing — that's the spike a motor draws when it first turns on.

RV Use
  Running W Starting W
RV Air Conditioner (13,500 BTU) 1,500 2,800

RV Refrigerator 150 400
Laptop 65 65
LED TV (40") 60 60
USB Charging 50 50
Box Fan 200 200

Running AC + microwave at 2,700W approaches the running limit. Feasible but leaves minimal headroom.

Microwave 1,000 1,000
CPAP Machine (with heat) 200 200
Phone / Device Charging 50 50
LED Lighting (6 bulbs) 60 60

Fridge + lights + CPAP + phone charging totals roughly 460W — well within the 3200W running capacity.

Let's talk about MXR

About MXR generators ▾

MXR builds inverter generators for people who care about clean power, runtime, and portability. The brand sits in the 2300W–6000W range, enclosed suitcase designs, dual fuel options, and safety features like CO auto-shutdown built standard across the lineup.

The MXR3500S is their mid-range dual-fuel model — bridging the gap between the lighter 3300 series and the 4000GT. At 55 lbs with electric start and a native TT-30R outlet, it hits a practical sweet spot: real portability without giving up the wattage to run an AC unit or a small compressor.

MXR generators are inverter-based, which means engine speed adjusts automatically to the load. That's where the fuel efficiency and clean power (≤3% THD) come from — the same technology used in Honda and Yamaha inverter generators at a significantly lower price point.

Frequently asked questions

The basics

What is the MXR3500S peak and running wattage?
On gasoline: 3,500W peak and 3,200W running. On propane: 3,100W peak and 2,800W running. The running wattage is what matters for sustained loads — peak wattage is the momentary surge capacity for starting motors.
Is the MXR3500S a true inverter generator?
Yes. It uses inverter technology to produce AC power, which means the engine speed adjusts to the load demand rather than running at full speed constantly. This delivers fuel efficiency, quieter operation, and clean power with less than 3% total harmonic distortion.
How much does the MXR3500S weigh?
55 lbs. Enclosed suitcase-style with a built-in handle. One person can carry it to an RV hookup, load it in a truck bed, or move it around the yard without assistance.
What are the dimensions?
21 inches long × 12 inches wide × 20 inches tall. Relevant for RV storage bays, truck beds, or any enclosed area where fit matters.
How loud is it?
62 dB measured at 23 feet — about the level of a normal conversation. Honda EU3200i runs quieter at 54–58 dB. The tradeoff: the MXR3500S costs significantly less and adds dual fuel that Honda doesn't offer in this class.

Fuel & runtime

How long will it run on a tank of gas?
11 hours at 25% load (800W) and 6.5 hours at 50% load (1,600W) on the 1.6 gallon tank. Real-world runtime depends on your actual load — running an AC unit and fridge simultaneously puts you closer to the 50% figures.
How long will it run on propane?
Up to 24 hours at 25% load and approximately 13.5 hours at 50% load on a standard 20 lb propane tank. Propane output is slightly lower (2,800W running vs 3,200W on gas), but the extended runtime makes it the better choice for sustained backup where refueling is inconvenient.
Can I switch between gas and propane while running?
No. Stop the engine, change the fuel selector, then restart. Do not switch while the generator is running.
What size propane tank does it use?
Connects to standard LP gas tanks. A 20 lb tank (standard grill size) provides roughly 24 hours at 25% load. A 1 lb disposable cylinder gives a few hours of light use.

Power & outlets

What outlets does it have?
Two 120V 20-amp household outlets (NEMA 5-20R), one 30-amp RV outlet (TT-30R), and two USB charging ports.
Will it plug directly into my RV?
If your RV uses a 30-amp shore power connection (TT-30R), yes — plug directly in, no adapter needed. If your RV is a 50-amp system, you'll need a 50A to 30A adapter, and the generator will only supply 30 amps of that connection.
Is the power safe for sensitive electronics?
Yes. Total harmonic distortion is rated at 3% or less — within the safe operating range for laptops, TVs, CPAP machines, and other sensitive devices.
Can I run a CPAP machine on this?
Yes. CPAP machines typically draw 30–200W depending on the model and whether a heated humidifier is active. The clean inverter power (≤3% THD) is safe for CPAP use.

Start & safety

Does it have electric start?
Yes — push-button electric start plus recoil backup. The 12V battery for electric start is not included. The recoil is available if the battery is ever depleted.
How does the CO auto-shutdown work?
A built-in carbon monoxide sensor monitors levels near the unit. If CO reaches a dangerous concentration, the engine shuts down automatically. Always run the generator at least 20 feet from any door, window, or vent — the CO shutdown is a backup, not a replacement for proper placement.
Can I run it indoors or in a garage?
No. Never run any generator indoors, in a garage, basement, shed, or under a covered porch. Carbon monoxide is odorless and can reach deadly levels in minutes in any partially enclosed space.

RV & parallel use

Can I parallel two MXR3500S units?
Yes. Parallel cables are included. Two units in parallel gives up to 6,400W running on gas — enough for a larger RV on a 50-amp connection or a more robust home backup setup. Both generators must be the same model on the same fuel type.
What RV air conditioner size can it run?
A 13,500 BTU RV AC draws about 1,500W running with a starting surge around 2,800W. The MXR3500S handles that surge with its 3,500W peak. Running the AC plus a fridge and other small loads is feasible — monitor total load and don't start other large appliances simultaneously at AC startup.

Maintenance

What oil does it use?
SAE 10W-30 motor oil. Capacity is 0.12 gallons. Check and add oil before first use — generators ship without oil.
What spark plug does it use?
A5RTC. A spark plug socket wrench is included in the box.
How should I store it when not in use?
If storing more than 30 days on gas, run the carburetor dry or use fuel stabilizer. On propane, storage is simpler — propane doesn't degrade. Store in a cool, dry location. A dust cover is included.

Ordering & shipping

Does it come with free shipping?
Yes. Ships free to the contiguous US. 1 business day handling, 1–5 business days transit.
What is the return policy?
30-day return window. Full refund, free return by mail. Call or email us and we'll take care of it.
What warranty does it come with?
2-year manufacturer's warranty through MXR. Covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. If you have a warranty issue, contact us directly — we'll work through it with you.
Can I call someone with questions before I order?
Yes. Call Josh at Durvy Supply: 314-833-8000. If you're not sure whether the MXR3500S is the right size for your RV, home backup, or job site, a five-minute call will sort it out.
