Good to know before you buy

What can a 4000 watt inverter generator run

A 3200 running watt inverter generator like the MXR4000GT is commonly sized for refrigerator and freezer backup, lights, internet, TVs, chargers, and many everyday essentials. In RV use, it can support a rooftop air conditioner and standard appliances with room left for phone chargers and electronics.

What dual fuel actually means for you

The MXR4000GT runs on either gasoline or propane. You select the fuel source with the switch on the control panel. Propane stores indefinitely without degrading — a real advantage for emergency backup where the generator may sit unused for months. Gasoline gives slightly more power (3200W running vs. 3000W on propane). Both are useful depending on your situation.

What the CO auto-shutdown does

The MXR4000GT includes a built-in CO DETECT sensor. If carbon monoxide accumulates to dangerous levels near the generator, it automatically shuts the engine off. This is a meaningful safety feature — but it does not replace running the generator outdoors and away from windows, doors, and vents. Always use outside in well-ventilated areas.

Runtime explained

Up to 7 hours at 25% load is closer to lighter essential use — refrigerator, lights, router, chargers, and selective electronics.

Up to 4 hours at 50% load is closer to heavier real-world use where more appliances or tools are running at the same time.

What the MXR4000GT can run

3200 running watts / 4000 peak watts (gasoline). Startup watts draw higher current for 1–2 seconds when a motor starts. Plan around running watts for sustained use.

Who is MXR? +
The MXR Story

MXR is produced by Maxpeedingrods, an engineering company founded in 2006 that builds performance and power equipment for real-world use. Their inverter generators are designed for buyers who want modern features — Bluetooth app control, CO auto-shutdown, dual fuel capability, and pure sine wave output — without paying a premium for a legacy brand name.

The MXR4000GT is built around a 145cc 4-stroke OHV engine paired with a digital inverter module. The result is stable, clean power output suitable for both sensitive electronics and motor-driven tools and appliances.

Parallel capability means two MXR4000GT units can be linked together for double the output — useful for buyers who want a scalable setup without buying a larger single unit.

MXR generators carry a 2-year manufacturer warranty. Durvy Supply provides direct support from Union, Missouri. Call or email us any time before or after your purchase.

Common questions about the MXR4000GT

General & setup questions
Can I just call instead of reading the FAQs?

Yes, anytime. Call or text 314-833-8000 or email sales@durvy.com. We provide direct support from our Union, MO location.

What's in the box?

MXR4000GT Inverter Generator, Owner's Manual, Spark Plug Socket Wrench, Oil Funnel, Screwdriver, Generator Dust Cover, 2x US Plugs, Generator Parallel Cables, Pressure Relief Valve Kit, L5-30P to TT-30R Adapter.

Does this generator ship with oil?

No. The MXR4000GT ships without engine oil. Add SAE 10W-30 oil before attempting to start it. Capacity is 0.12 gal. Failure to add oil before starting will cause serious engine damage.

What type of oil and gas does it use?

Oil: SAE 10W-30. Capacity is 0.12 gal. Gas: 87 octane or higher, maximum 10% ethanol. Do not use E85 or E15.

How do I connect the battery for electric start?

Open the side maintenance panel. A quick-connect battery plug is pre-installed on the battery. Connect the plug before first use. Disconnect the battery if storing the generator long-term.

How do I pair the Bluetooth app?

Search for "Maxpeedingrods" in the App Store or Google Play. Open the main switch, then press and hold the RESET button on the control panel for 3 seconds to initiate pairing. The app displays output power, fuel level, voltage, frequency, runtime, and generator status.

What should I check before leaving for a trip?

Check oil and fuel, start via app or push button and confirm the display is populating correctly, verify Bluetooth connection, and pack a spare quart of oil and a backup spark plug (A5RTC).

RV use questions
Will the MXR4000GT run a 30 amp RV?

Yes. A 30 amp RV typically requires up to 3,600 watts at 120V. With 3,200 running watts, the MXR4000GT can support most 30 amp RV setups including a rooftop air conditioner and standard appliances. Confirm your specific load before connecting.

Can it run an RV air conditioner?

In many setups, yes. A 13,500 BTU RV AC typically draws around 1,500 running watts with a 3,000 watt startup surge. The MXR4000GT has 4,000 peak watts available to handle the surge. Turn off Low Idle Mode before starting the AC compressor.

Does it come with an RV adapter?

Yes. The box includes an L5-30P to TT-30R adapter for standard 30 amp RV connections.

Why is my RV surge protector showing an open ground fault?

Portable generators have a floating neutral. Many RV EMS and surge protector systems require a bonded neutral. Use a neutral-ground bonding plug in one of the 20A outlets to resolve this.

Should I leave Low Idle on when running my RV AC?

No. Turn Low Idle off before starting heavy loads so the engine runs at full RPM for the startup surge. Turn it back on once the compressor is running if you want to save fuel.

Can I connect two MXR4000GT generators together?

Yes. Use the included parallel cables to link two units. The combined output is approximately 90% of the sum of both generators' power. The parallel kit uses the dedicated connector ports on the control panel — not the AC receptacles.

Dual fuel questions
How do I switch between gasoline and propane?

Use the FUEL SOURCE switch on the control panel. For propane, connect the LPG hose to the inlet on the control panel and open the propane tank before starting. For gasoline, switch to the gasoline position. Do not switch fuels while running under load.

Does propane give the same power as gasoline?

Not quite. On propane, the MXR4000GT produces 3,600 peak watts and 3,000 running watts — slightly less than the 4,000/3,200 watt gasoline ratings. For most backup and RV use, the difference is not significant.

Why would I choose propane over gasoline?

Propane stores indefinitely without degrading, which makes it a better option if the generator will sit unused for months. Gasoline can go stale in as little as 30 days without a stabilizer, which can clog the carburetor.

Is it hard to start on propane?

If you have trouble starting on propane, the manual recommends starting on gasoline first and then switching the fuel source to LPG after the engine is running and there is no load connected.

What size propane tank can I use?

The MXR4000GT connects to a standard propane tank via an LPG hose (not included). A standard 20 lb barbecue propane tank is the most common choice for portable use. Always close the tank valve when the generator is not running on propane.

Home backup planning
Is 3200 running watts enough for home backup?

For essential backup use, yes. A refrigerator, chest freezer, lights, router, and phone chargers typically draw well under 2,000 running watts combined. The MXR4000GT handles that load with room to spare for additional items.

Can I run a well pump on this generator?

A standard 1/2 HP well pump draws around 1,000 running watts with a 2,000 watt startup surge. The MXR4000GT can handle this, but avoid running other large loads simultaneously when starting the pump.

Can I connect this to a transfer switch?

Yes. The 120V/30A outlet is suitable for connection to a compatible manual transfer switch. Transfer switch installation should be performed by a licensed electrician. Never connect a portable generator directly to a household circuit without a proper transfer switch.

Does this generator work with a Starlink dish?

Yes. Starlink draws approximately 50–75 running watts. The MXR4000GT's pure sine wave output is well-suited for Starlink and other sensitive electronics.

Maintenance & storage
What is the recommended maintenance schedule?

Check engine oil and air filter before each use. Change oil after the first 20 hours, then every 50 hours or every 3 months. Clean the spark arrestor every 50 hours. Inspect the spark plug yearly and replace if worn.

How do I prep it for storage?

For short storage (under 30 days): add fuel stabilizer to the tank. For longer storage: drain the tank and carburetor completely. The easiest method is to turn the fuel switch OFF while the engine is running and let it burn off all remaining fuel from the lines before shutting down.

Why does the engine struggle to start after sitting?

Old or stale gasoline is the most common cause. Drain the tank, add fresh 87 octane fuel, and try again. Cold temperatures can also thicken oil — allow a warm-up period before adding a load in cold weather.

Is this generator National Park and campground legal?

It is equipped with a spark arrestor and runs as an inverter generator. Check specific campground or park rules before use, as noise and equipment requirements vary by location.
